      There two ways to answer that.

      First of all… if the Sun simply switches off then about 8 minutes later, it would go dark and then the Earth would start to cool. It might take some time (days or weeks or months) but the seas would freeze and eventually our atmosphere would begin to condense into liquid and then solid. However, long before that the conditions of the surface of the Earth would not support life.

      Secondly if the Sun exploded or went nova to use the astronomical term. Then very shortly after that, probably less than an hour, the Earth would be fried! All life would simple cease to exist on the side facing the Sun and the atmosphere would be blown away killing off the rest.

      In either scenario, zero chance of survival!
