Hi JJ, this is not my area of expertise but I will attempt to answer!
It’s difficult, I would think we would have to try and stay one step ahead of the cancer by trying to predict any changes/mutations. Perhaps this could be done by somebody that specialises at looking at the genetics.
It is possible to prevent harm from pathogens that evolve or mutate – For example: The annual flu vaccine. There are teams responsible for monitoring any changes in the flu virus, so that it is then possible to slightly change the vaccine each year if needed – so that it can continue to protect people.
An incredible vaccine that has been created relatively recently – The HPV vaccine – plays an important role in preventing cervical cancer, as almost all cases of cervical cancer are caused by HPV.
