Question: Do you think you will see any irreversible effects of climate change in your lifetime?

i think we can already see the effects of climate change on the weather patterns and the melting of the ice caps where the polar bears live. weather it is reversible or not depends on how succesful climate actions are. it could be that these changes are permenant but that we work to ensure it stops there and does not get any worse.

While it’s difficult to predict the exact timeline of specific climate change impacts, many irreversible effects of climate change are already underway, such as the loss of biodiversity, melting polar ice caps, and rising sea levels. In my lifetime, I expect to witness further intensification of these trends, as well as potentially catastrophic events like more frequent extreme weather events, ecosystem disruptions, and food and water shortages.
However, the extent of these impacts will depend on our collective actions to mitigate climate change and adapt to its effects. Urgent efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to renewable energy sources, conserve ecosystems, and implement sustainable practices are crucial in mitigating the worst consequences of climate change. While some irreversible changes may already be occurring, proactive measures can still limit the severity of future impacts and help build a more resilient and sustainable future.

Sea level is rising – because warmer water takes up more space, and because melting ice sheets or glaciers puts more water into the ocean. Sea level responds really slowly, so even if we stopped greenhouse gas emissions tomorrow and temperature became steady, sea level will continue to rise for 100’s to 1000’s of years.
