I did, although Edinburgh is a little unusual in having a very broad range of private schools at an equally broad range of prices. It’s far more normal to attend a fee-paying school there and many occupy the same roles as grammar schools do elsewhere. The difference is you pay for the education rather than paying for the house to get your children into the right catchment area.

I went to state school in my country (Sri Lanka) when I was young. But I left the country for 4 years and when I returned, I went to private school for the last 3 years (as they were the only ones that offered the UK curriculum in Sri Lanka).

I went to a public (state) school for almost all of my life, but when we lived in Austria, my dad’s work (the government) put me in a private school there. That’s because I was only four and hadn’t learned to speak German yet, so I wouldn’t have been able to understand anything in my local school!

I did, yes. Although I enjoyed it and was grateful for the experiences, I dont think it made a big difference in my science career when I started at university. I work with people from all backgrounds who just all love science!

No I went to a state comprehensive school. But I did then go to Cambridge University where I was surrounded by private school kids. I noticed that the privately educated students were more confident, but the state school students were better at everyday life things like cooking!
