I live with my family in Glasgow where I work as a Senior Scientific Officer at the CRUK Scotland Institute.Β I love both playing and watching sports, particularly football.

My Work:
I work on animal models of cancer, focussing on Pancreatic and colorectal cancers. I have an interest in the environment of the tumours and studying all the different cell types involved in making a tumour.

I work on developing new animal models of cancer so that we can mimic the human disease more effectively. I have a keen interest in understanding the environment of the tumour and picking apart the function of all the different cell types that exist within it, particularly my favourite cell the fibroblast!

My Typical Day:
I aim to get into the lab for around 8:30 in the morning. My mornings usually consist of monitoring my animal models of cancer. Often I will have lab meetings with various groups that share similar research interests and we will plan new experiments. My afternoons usually have more variety, I can often be culturing and growing cells on a dish, or analysing my data.

Education:
I went to Bellahouston Academy during high school. I then studied Immunology as an Honours degree at the University of Glasgow. Following this I completed a PhD researching pancreatic cancer at the CRUK Beatson Institute in Glasgow.

Qualifications:
I did standard grades in high school, followed by 5 highers in Biology, Chemistry, Maths, English and Computing science. I then completed 3 advanced highers in Biology, Computing and Chemistry.

Work History:
I have worked in Asda as a store colleague. I have also worked as a student tutor teaching Biology, Chemistry and Maths. I have then continuously worked in science since, as a PhD student and then as a scientific officer.

Current Job:
I am currently a Senior Scientific Officer at the CRUK scotland Centre working in the National Mouse Genetics Network Cancer Cluster Team.
