About Me:

I’m a 28yo portuguese woman in STEM. I did my PhD in Cancer Genetics and in my free time I enjoy outdoor activites. I run marathons and also do triathlons to keep my mind and body healthy.

My Work:

I am a Cancer Genetics scientist! One of the questions I am exploring is if any genes or mutations (which are mistakes in the DNA) are responsible for different aspects of Cancer. My work helps predict if someone will respond better or worse to some treatments and contributes to new ideas for new drugs.
What I'd do with the prize money:

I would like to create a board game which the main aim is to beat cancer, and stop cancer cell from growing but every round there are new adaptations and resistance to the “weapons” (treatments). This would help break a lot of tabu around the topic and clarify why cancer is such a difficult disease.
