Question: what would happen if you ate some uranium

Martin McCoustra answered on 13 Mar 2024:
I wouldn’t recommend it… for two reasons. Uranium is a heavy metal and normally these have no useful role in our bodies. But more importantly uranium is a radioactive material. The radiation it releases can cause damage to the cells in our body. If you eat enough, it might kill you… At the very least is will increase you chances of getting cancern.

Sharron Kenny answered on 4 Apr 2024:
you would suffer the effects of radiation sickness. chernobyl was an example of a radiation leak and how dangerous radiation exposure to uranium and radioactive cesium can be 🙁
it can have effects on the body right now or it can effect people many years later with cancers such as lukemia and liver cancers

Fergus McKiddie answered on 9 Jul 2024:
It would poison you. That would kill you quicker than the potential radiation effects. Unless the uranium was highly enriched then it’s chemical toxicity is a far bigger issue than the radiation it gives off.
