About Me:
I am about to move back to Scotland (from the south of England) with my family – my wife Kerry and my two boys Lachlan (5 yrs) and Brodie (2 yrs).
I enjoy playing golf and getting out playing with my boys – we really like the trampoline parks for bouncing and soft plays.

My Work:
I am a Data Centre (where the internet lives) mechanical design engineer. I try to make these buildings greener and friendlier for the environment.

I work on lots of projects at different design stages, this ranges from concepts and site masterplanning to build, installation of systems and also testing to make sure they work correctly.
For myself I work a lot on what we call ‘critical cooling’, this is because the computers and IT equipment does not switch off and is always producing heat (lots of it). So the cooling systems must also provide cooling all the time. Even when there is a fault or something breaks.
I spend a lot of time worrying about electronic equipment and how to make a suitable environment for them, occasionally I will design systems for offices and administration areas – where we all need to sit, have lunch, attend meetings or work on our own computers

My Typical Day:
Get up around 6.00am where my youngest is already shouting for breakfast, make breakfast for the boys (make myself a coffee), then get washed and dressed for the day.
Head to the office, make another coffee, then start with meetings either online or in person. Then make more coffee. We will head out for a short walk at lunch time to get some fresh air, then the afternoon is pretty similar – meetings and more coffee
I think i drink too much coffee 🙂
Then its home to help my wife with the boys, their bed time routine and to read stories – my current favourite is Superworm!

What I'd do with the prize money:
I am a new STEM ambassador and I would use this money to help fund engaging and useful activities for children to help them see the fun that can be had in learning.
