I was educated in Scotland and didn’t do GCSEs. I did 8 Scottish O Grades over Years 3 and 4 at high school (English, History, French, Latin, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Arithmetic) and 5 Higher s (English, History, Chemistry, Physics and Maths) and crashed an additional O grade (Engineering Drawing) in Year 5 at high school. I left at the end of Year 5 to go directly to university.

I did maths (A*), biology (A), chemistry (A), physics (A), English lit (B), English Lang (B), geography (B) and French (B).
I found languages really hard, it took a LOT of work to get that B. -

I got A* in Double Science, but that was the only subject I got that in. The rest were a combination of A, B and Cs (with one D in German which was a subject I really struggled in)

I was the first year to start the new GCSE grades with numbers instead of letters so I have a mix! For Maths and English I got 8 and 9. For my three science subjects I got A*. I also got an A* in RS. My last three subjects were Art, Computer science and History and I got A grades for them.

I got C in double science, maths and english language. The rest of my GCSEs were D-E.
I dropped French so I could concentrate on my science and maths. I’m not academic in the slightest, I struggled in school and really worked hard to get the grades I got.
I found a job that I absolutely loved and because I enjoyed it I found that learning what I needed to wasn’t so hard like it was in school. We all have different ways of learning and I’ve found that I learn best by practical hands on activities rather than a formal classroom setting.

I didn’t do GCSEs because I went to high school in Canada. Instead, I did the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. For that, you have to choose six subjects: maths, English, history (with geography), two sciences (I did biology and physics), and a second language (I did French). You also have to do philosophy and something called an “extended essay,” which at the time was a 5,000-word paper on a topic in one of your subjects. I wanted to do triple science, so I added chemistry as an extra certificate.
I got good marks on English, French, and the sciences (roughly the equivalent of A*s and As), but didn’t do as well on maths and history (more like Bs). I actually had to redo history because my teacher lost one of my essays and I didn’t find out until after the grades came out!
