Question: how do you know how smart an animal is

Georgia Lambert answered on 15 Feb 2024:
That is a great question that a lot of scientists would like to know the answer to! There are lots of different ways people have tried to decide how intelligent an animal is such as measuring the size of their brain or looking at how fast they learn a new skill or seeing whether they can use a tool to solve a problem. BUT we don’t really have a solid definition of what intelligence actually is and there is a lot of disagreement over what makes an animal smart or not smart because it’s kind of a matter of opinion.
