Question: can you make the M R I more spaceious for clastrophobic people

Great question! When they were first invented it used to be much smaller than they are now but they are slowly developing new scanners that make it wider and wider. Most tunnels are 70cm wide now and there is even a new 80cm one.
We also have scanners that are a different shape that can help claustrophobic people. Most MRI scanners are donut shaped but some are like a sandwich which can sometimes help patients feel more comfortable

Open and Upright MRI is what you are looking for. Another interesting question is affordability of MRI which is quite a challenge. There are some developments in that space including low field MRI – but quality of the picture is work in progress.
