How I use Science in my work:
I work in the lab, doing experiments with cells to understand more about obesity and diabetes. I sometimes do what we call “dry lab” experiments on the computer.
-
My Work:
I am a molecular biologist studying obesity. I try to find ways to activate special cells called brown adipocytes that can burn lots of fat to help obese patients lose weight.
-
My Typical Day:
I wake up around 7.30 am, have breakfast and prepare for work. I get to work around 9 and check my schedule for the day. Each day is different!
Sometimes I have meetings with other researchers to talk about science and share our findings, sometimes I do experiments in the lab and other days I analyse data on my computer or write down my results. Most days are a mixture.
I finish work around 5 pm and pick up my baby from nursery before going home.
-
Education:
I studied at a public school in Galicia, in the North of Spain. I graduated in Biology from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Galicia, Spain) and then moved to Salamanca, in the center of the country, to study a Masters in Cancer. I got my PhD in 2019 and moved to Cambridge to continue my career in research.

Current Job:
Postdoctoral fellow at the University of Cambridge
