About Me:
I live in Cardiff with my partner. I am an avid foodie and an xbox gamer when not in the labs in the day. I surf, travel and like to take part in water-sport activities.
-
My pronouns are:
he/him
-
My Work:
I research into blood products, and try to make them better for when a patient receives them. For example, I work on platelets, cells which stop you bleeding when you cut yourself. My work aims to make them better for patients who are bleeding lots after a serious accident.
-
My Typical Day:
I wake up and have coffee, I cannot live without my coffee. I start work at 8am, where I do lots of experiments in the lab and make sure all machines are working. I have lunch over the road in the hospital restaurant. After lunch i look at my results and put them into an article to be shared. I finish at 4pm.
-
What I'd do with the prize money:
I would look to set up a mini-outreach with a school to show what scientists in the blood service do, by using a cross-matching example to show that certain blood has to go to certain patients.
-
Education:
I went to Churchdown School in Gloucester for my GCSEs and A-levels. I then went to Cardiff Metropolitan University for my BSc Biomedical Science Degree, and my Doctor of Philosophy Degree, Making me a Doctor!
-
Qualifications:
GCSE including triple science was a must. I got A in All sciences and maths. B in all other subjects such as English, French etc.
A-levels i did Biology – D, Chemistry – C, Maths – C. My A level grades were low, as I did not try as hard as I should have, however, this did not hinder me in becoming a doctor.
First Class Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biomedical Sciences
Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences
Fellowship of the institute of biomedical sciences
