An interesting question and one that really has real-world implications. People who have had serious head injuries are often found to be brain-dead. There is no activity in the higher brain, the cerebrum, that makes the person them. They are gone as a person like switching off a computer. However, the lower brain, the cerebellum, can keep the body working with a little help from external machinary even though their heart might be beating. This poses doctors a real problem is defining when someone is dead.

your body would not be able to function as it does now. you would have to be kept alive by machines . thats what gives medical professionals questions over what is quality of life and what is living because the body is living but the person is not concious and aware at all.
