I’ve never worked with any tropical organisms, but the most exotic creatures were probably the ghost shrimp we had in an aquarium in Canada. They had to be shipped right across North America, from the US coast of Oregon, so they must have been a little confused when they arrived in eastern Canada!

I have done some work with leaf-cutter ants 🐜 and orb weaver spiders 🕷 which both live in the tropics! But the experiments I was involved with were done in a lab in the UK so sadly I didn’t get to see them in their natural environment.

I’ve worked with quite a few, but probably the most tropical was green sea turtles. I did a project in Hawai’i where I had to go SCUBA diving with them in the wild so that I could check them for cancer. (The good news is that most of them were clear!)

I have done work on the tiger Puffer Fish (Takifugu rubripes) and Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) even if most of my work is on rainbow trout (that are not originally from the UK and were imported here in the 1800’s) they are not considered exotic I guess (and definitely not tropical as they like only cold waters)
