To get maple syrup, sap from maple trees is evaporated down (a way of decreasing water content) until it becomes syrup; it can take 40 L of sap to make just 1 L of the syrup that you can buy from the store. Thanks for this fun question!
In this country I don’t know of anyone growing maples trees to produce syrup – we tend to use bees to make honey instead. If you would like to get maple syrup here you need to buy it and several shops as well as online are places you can buy it from. The answer above is correct as to how to make maple syrup. I have vised a small holding in Canada when they were making maple syrup – a lot of reducing the tree sap liquid to concentrate (evaporate out the water) and make the syrup! I love pancakes with crispy bacon topped with maple syrup – super yummy as a treat!
