Almost definitely! The Artemis missions are NASA’s plan to return humans to the Moon and prepare the path and science to allow for future Mars missions. Artemis II will launch in November 2024, sending astronauts around the Moon. Artemis III, in December 2025, aims to land astronauts on the Moon’s South Pole. Artemis IV, set for September 2028, will continue lunar exploration and work on the lunar Gateway, a space station orbiting the Moon. Artemis V, planned for 2029, will further explore the Moon and use the Gateway to support future missions. These missions will help us learn more about space and develop new technologies for exploring other planets!

I certainly hope so! As Michael said, NASA’s Artemis program aims to do just that, although the Artemis II mission has now slipped back to November 2025, and Artemis III to 2026. There are lots of reasons to be really excited about this, but for me specifically, our research group at Kennedy Space Center has a payload on the Artemis III mission called LEAF, which will see the first astronauts to land on the Moon in the 21st century hand-deliver plants to the surface of the Moon, and then bring them back to our lab at Kennedy Space Center so we can directly see how the plants respond to the Lunar environment – how cool is that?!
