About Me:
I am a consultant neonatologist and a mother of a 14 year old. I love travelling and dancing.

My Work:
I am a consultant Neonatologist. I look after and treat small sick vulnerable babies who require intensive care. I also follow up these babies and one of my subspecialties and interest is in neonatal neurodevelopment and neurology. I also am interested in research and clinical trials and do feel strongly that every baby and every person should have the right to participate in a trial or study if they wish to.

My Typical Day:
My typical days gets split into two types
One where I cover the special care baby unit, and look after sick babies, be part of the delivery team supporting the baby’s breathing or resuscitation (extensive support) and intensive care to ensure best outcome for the baby. Family and communicating with the baby’s family is a very big part of my role and making joint decisions to decide what to do next – this is called integrated care.
The second type of day is divided into clinics where I follow up my babies who have been discharged from the hospital to look at their growth and development or review a referral from GP for some concern or symptom. I also do research – so I am a principal investigator for lots of studies looking at how we can use evidence based medicine better.
I dont have standard times. I often work late. I often have to come in for an emergency in the middle of the night, I often get called at say 1-2 am for advice.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would like to spend it on my neonatal unit to buy some equipment so I can help save babies lives better.
