My Work:
I specialise in forensic psychology – the application of psychology to understand crime, victims and witnesses, police investigations, and the criminal justice system. I’m particularly interested in witness deception, false alibis, and juror perceptions of forensic science.

I am currently working on a project looking at the impact of gruesome case evidence on juror wellbeing and trauma. We hope to discover how we can better support jurors to cope with the challenges of jury duty.
-
My Typical Day:
I am an early riser and like to start work by 7.30am but never before a big cup of coffee! There isn’t a set routine to my days from that point onwards and I love the variation of my job. Some days I am conducting experiments with members of the public, others I am delivering lectures about the psychology of juror decision making, setting up mock-crime scenes for student investigation role play, planning student support workshops, orΒ helping my students design their own research projects.

I work 4 days a week so that I can have a day at home with my toddler and can take my older two children to and from school.
-
What I'd do with the prize money:
I would love to work with young people in schools and colleges to better understand their perceptions and expectations of forensic psychology and help develop strategies and resources to help them deal with the more challenging aspects of the subject.
