My Work:
My PhD research focuses on using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) as a novel imaging tool to provide cross-sectional and three-dimensional non-invasive in vivo monitoring of plant microstructure in real-time. The goal is to evaluate its use in the field.
My OCT project is a collaboration between the departments of Chemistry, School of Bioscience, and Department of Electronic and Electric Engineering (EEE) at University of Sheffield. -
My Typical Day:
I start the day off by checking my emails. This way, I can get everything organized at the start of the day. I then look over the calendar and get started on the projects that have my top priority.
After a brief lunch break, come to the lab (Do experiments, meetings, interpret data, … etc). I generally finish my lab work by 5 PM. Listening music while I prepare dinner, and then, setting in front of the TV.
Very normal life, nothing extraordinary. I like it this way. Pretty balanced, simple, and nice.

BSc (Biology) – Bachelor of Science in Biology, Omar Al-Mukhtar University, Derna, Libya.
-
Qualifications:
Master in Plant Physiology. The research was on Carbon reactions within photosynthesis, light reactions during photosynthesis, plant cells, genome organization, and stress on gene expression at ASU (Ain Shams University), Cairo, Egypt.
-
Work History:
I was Research Assistant in Biology at Omar Al-Mukhtar University Campus, Libya.
During these appointments as a Research Assistant and subsequently as a Tutor, I have:
- Undertaken small research projects and experiments in the biology lab at the university.
- Assisted in the supervision and laboratory teaching of undergraduate students.
- Given lectures and tutorials to biology, pharmacy, and biochemistry undergraduate students at the university.
- When I was in Libya, I was “and am still” interested in outdoor activities, particularly those involving observation of nature. I am from districts of Derna, the only green part of Libya called “The Green Mountain” which is rich of its diverse natural and life forms. As apart from my past work as a biology tutor, I always kept a notebook containing my records and observations during many trips to various parts of this beautiful mountainous.
