I love spending time with my friends and playing video games (especially Nintendo Switch and all Super Mario games). When I have more free time, I also love to sew and make clothes for myself or my friends. I am very focused and committed with my exercise routine. I go for runs in the park, hot yoga, and some weightlifting at the gym. I am a vegetarian and love cooking and eating delicious food with my husband and friends. I love spending time in Central London and feel so blessed to live in such a charming place.

In my work, we grow cancer cells in the lab and treat them with new drugs to see if they are effective before being used in patients. We also check the genetics to understand which genes and mutations are important and how to prevent drug resistance in the patients. Currently, I am working with colorectal cancer, but I have worked with skin cancer, brain cancer, and many more before.
-
My Typical Day:
I go to work every day by foot. I live just 15 min away. I love to listen to podcasts on the way, but once I am in the lab, I only listen to calming music, because I need to pay attention. Lunch is always a fun time, where everyone gets together and talks about life in general. At least once a week, we go to the pub after work, to have drinks and celebrate achievements.

I wake up and have breakfast at home (porridge with banana) and I walk to my work. Once I am there, I go to the lab and start my experiments. I love having a coffee break around 10 am, where I can catch up with my friends and talk about life in general. We meet again for lunch. Everyone sits together at a massive table in the cafeteria. I also have loads of meetings where people present their work and I give updates about my last findings. I leave work around 5 pm and go straight to the gym for around 1 hour. When I get home I am very tired, so all I want to do is have dinner and watch something on my TV.

Education:
I went to school in Brazil and the system is different from here. I was lucky to get a scholarship that allowed me to attend a private school and get a great education.
-
Qualifications:
In Brazil we don’t have the same certifications as here, but in summary, I finished school and went straight to study Biomedical Sciences at the university. After that, I did a Master Degree and a PhD using radioactive drugs to diagnostic tumors.
-
Work History:
After I finished university, I worked for 1 year in a English school teaching kids. Then, I started my Master followed by my PhD, that were both full time. After that, I started working as a PostDoc in a lab investigation skin cancer and treatments still in Brazil. In 2018 I got a position to work in the University of Oxford, and then moved to London to work at the Institute of Cancer Research. So in summary, I have worked in a lab studying cancer for more than 10 years now.
-
Current Job:
I currently work at The Institute of Cancer Research in London. A place totally focused on cancer treatments that is also connected to the Royal Marsden Hospital, one of the best cancer treatment hospitals in the world.
