I’m a scientist at LifeScan Scotland, who manufacture blood glucose test strips for diabetics.

I’m a Senior Scientist, supporting the Quality Laboratory at LifeScan. We manufacture blood glucose test strips for diabetes management and the lab test the strips to make sure they are fit for purpose before shipping out to patients.

My Typical Day:
I get up at 5.40am and get ready for work, normally get there at just after 8am (I have a 50 minute drive in). We have our 9am daily meeting to see what is highest priority and then start working on projects. Lunch is at 12 and we normally try and sit outside. Afternoon is normally more relaxing tasks then leave just after 4pm.

In the evenings, I will come home and make my tea, feed the dogs then take them out for at least an hour. Tidy the house, enjoy some TV then off to bed.

What I'd do with the prize money:
LifeScan recently hosted an Engineering Open Week to Age 12 and above, and we wanted to run the same event for primary age pupils. Unfortunately some of the primary schools were unable to attend as they don’t have transport, therefore I would like to use the prize money to pay for transport for these schools so they don’t miss out on the opportunity of our open day.
