I am a plant scientist and I am originally from Portugal! Now I live in Dundee with my partner and I work for the University of Dundee as a lecturer at the James Hutton Institute.

I did all my studies in Portugal: Honours degree in Biology in Porto and PhD in Plant Science in Lisbon. After that, I have lived in Cambridge, UK and two different cities in Germany too!
Now that I moved to Dundee, I am looking forward to exploring more of Scotland which is such a beautiful country!
My partner is a scientist too and we are planning to build a new Youtube and TikTok channels together to talk a little bit about science, travelling and food!

My Work:
I am interested in how genes get switched ON and OFF in plants. I am curious about how plants use genes to adapt to different temperatures.

My research may help us understand how we can make crops more resilent to climate change. And I hope before that we will learn more about plant genetics and how plants adapt to their environment.

Portuguese people often like coffee a lot! I always start my day with breakfast and coffee. My working days are always very different!

Sometimes I have to write a lot. This includes papers for scientific jorunals which allow to show other scientists our results. Sometimes it involves writing grants to secure funding for my group, it is how I pay the salary of the people in my team. This funding can be from the government of industry and it also helps cover the cost of lab equipment.
I travel a lot for work. Travelling can be to present our results in international conferences or take part in the graduation committee of a student.
Sometime I spend a full day in the glasshouse looking after plants or in the lab carrying out experiments.
It is not a boring job!
