My Work:
I’m a lecturer, which means my work involves a mixture of teaching university students and scientific research. I’m interested in how plants and animals are affected by environmental change and how we can all collect data to help answer these questions.

My research focuses on how animals and plants respond to changes in the environments where they live. I’ve worked with quite a range of different species – from plants to butterflies to sheep! I am also interested in citizen science, which means where members of the public collect scientific data, for example by recording different animals or plants that they see. A lot of my research has involved computer modelling, but I also do some field work sometimes. I mainly teach students who are doing degrees in environmental science, ecology and conservation.

My Typical Day:
My days are very varied. Sometimes I go away on field courses for a few days or a couple of weeks with a group of students. Sometimes I am in the office or working from home. Sometimes I am giving lectures or running computer workshops.

Education:
I went to Histon and Impington primary school, followed by Impington Village College, both of which are in a village near Cambridge. I did an undergraduate degree and a masters in Durham and then a PhD in Sheffield.

Qualifications:
10 GCSEs
3 A-levels – Biology, Chemistry and History.
BSc in Zoology and MSc from Durham University.
PhD in Ecology from University of Sheffield. -
Work History:
I’ve worked in a range of jobs include as a sales assistant in a toyshop and as a research assistant in a zoo.
