I get a buzz when students say they ‘get it now’ when I explain something in the simplest way possible, or demonstrate something that clarifies the point.
The other day I was demonstrating the Bombe (the device that Alan Turing and Gordon Welchman used to work out the settings on Enigma) and a person said that they’d read loads of books but seeing it work had made the whole thing clearer.

I’m not a science teacher, merely a volunteer who enjoys sharing enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and maths. I get a buzz out of encouraging others, particularly if I can encourage someone to think about scientific principles and engineering effects in ways that they’ve not previously considered

I taught adults, mostly in prisons, so my favourite part about it was giving prisoners skills they could use to get a job when they got out. This meant they could earn an honest living and turn away from crime. So, by teaching those skills I helped reduce victims of crime and I could see it worked by the number of ex prisoners that settled into a normal life.

How diverse it is! I think it always helps being enthusiastic about the topic you are teaching yourself. I especially enjoy people are interested in the topic and ask plenty of questions 🙂

Passing on the knowledge and seeing them starting to understand and being applying it. Also, those “AHA” moments.
