From a biological perspective, in humans you can have identical (monozygotic) twins or fraternal (dizygotic) twins. Identical twins originate from the same fertilised egg and therefore makes them genetically identical. This which can lead to similarities in appearance and, in some cases, health traits. Fraternal twins, on the other hand, are no more genetically similar than regular siblings, sharing on average 50% of their genes, because they develop from two different eggs fertilised by two different sperm cells.
From a psychological and social standpoint, even identical twins develop their own identities. They have individual thoughts, feelings, preferences, and experiences that contribute to their unique personalities. Environmental factors, including the way they are raised, their personal experiences, and the different choices they make in life, also play a crucial role in shaping their identities.
So, in summary, while twins, especially identical ones, may share the same genetic makeup, they are not the same person. Each twin is an individual with their own identity, shaped by a combination of genetic factors and personal experiences.

If you are thinking of the idea of cloning… common in the plant world… then clones are identical genetically. However, this is not necessarily the case in animal twins… animal twins can sometimes arise if there are two fertilised eggs present at the same time. Those an not clones.

Plants can produce more than one embryo inside the seeds, they can be twins. In spanish we have separated terms, “gemelos” when they are identical as they belongs to the same fertilisation or “mellizos” when there were 2 ovules fertilised separately. It is a quite often to find twins on acorns for example. You can see it when you plant a single seed and appear more 2 plants together. The maximum I saw was an acorn with 5 embryos.

Both plants and people can have twins! They are not the same plant or person, but if they are identical twins, they have the same genetic background. (Fraternal twins don’t have the same genetic background, but come from the same parents at the same time. For people, that also means they will almost always be born on the same day.) After they form, identical twins can develop genetic changes that make them less similar than they started, but even if this happens, they are still much more similar than fraternal twins or non-twin relatives.
