There’s lots of science and engineering go into motor vehicles. If you want to understand car design and construction then Automotive Engineering is likely where you should start. That will explain the physics behind the design choices made in building cars. While if you want to understand the cutting edge materials used in building them then that’s part of chemistry. The same is true with powering the car… combustion and batteries are both topics in chemistry. The important thing is no one discipline can help you understand how to build a car.

Lots of branches of science handle this! For instance, physics is involved in how cars move, the way they are powered, and analyzing things like crash scenes. Chemistry goes into making better fuels and even things like protective paints and coatings. Engineering handles how cars are built and how our roadways are designed. Even things like behavioural science are involved in designing the controls people use in cars!

most science can be related to cars and travelling eventually. I’ve ended up working in transportation (new ways to power trucks) via chemistry and physics, but there are so many different aspects of cars and transportation in general that you’ll probably be able to find a niche whatever you start out as.

You need to have the physics to understand how the car etc moves. Chemistry helps you find the right conditions to get energy from your fuel. It helps you find the right materials from which all the components are made. Engineering helps you work out how to turn the idea into a product which can be mass produced and works well. Maths supports all of these
