I only decided I wanted to study biology in my final year of A Levels. I was very indecisive at the time. But I realised I really enjoyed reading about famous biologists, and how they made their discoveries. I also loved reading about infectious diseases so I thought a biology degree was a good place to start!

I did my BSc in biomedical sciences at The University of Manchester, and I’ve stayed on to do a PhD here!

I chose to study science because of all the television series that made it sound so interesting. i loved David Attenbrough and the science surrounding genetics and inheritence so i went to newcastle and studied Biology. however i found there wasnt much call for a biologist in the north of england and i wanted to stay local forensic science caught my eye. so i continued with a masters at the university of teesside. this opened the door to Analytical Chemistry and lab work and this is where i have found my home

I liked it, and enjoyed using maths as a language. Physics just seemed really interesting, and had good job prospects as there were lots of different paths to take after a degree.

I studied at Oxford – lots of people told me I wouldn’t get in, so I worked hard and was offered a place, and then lots of people said I wouldn’t fit in and should go somewhere else – and I’m very obstinate so that made me go there 🙂

I enjoyed science and maths at primary school… Found I was good at it in high school and because I lived in an area where the petrochemical industry was strong, I decided to study chemistry at university. I got my degree from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh (getting into university with 5 A pass Highers in Chemistry, Physics, Maths, English, and History). At university, I realised I liked doing research and setting my own agenda so I did a PhD and followed an academic career pathway.

I always had a lot of questions as a child. For many of them, nobody knew the answers – but when they did, it was always a scientific answer! That’s what got me interested in science and I decided to become a scientist so that I could look for answers to my own questions.

I did my undergraduate degree at a university in Canada, then went to America to for a post-baccalaureate and a PhD before moving to the UK for work. Now I’m back to working in Canada! Who knows where I might end up next?

I chose to study and to work in a job that involves science, because I had a passion for the heart and how it worked. I found it really interesting, so I wanted to make it my job. I am currently studying and working, doing a degree apprenticeship at Macclesfield Hospital and Manchester Metropolitan University.

I chose science because I really enjoyed biology and chemistry and school. I always wanted to be a scientist of some kind so it was a natural choice for me. After my A-levels, I went to Keele University to study Biology and Chemistry.

I loved human biology in school but was very indecisive as to what specific field to go into. So I studied Medical Sciences which is a very broad course at University of Edinburgh. I loved it so I stayed on to do a Masters by Research in Biomedical Sciences where I got to work on 2 very different research topics.
I then applied to different PhDs including my current project at Glasgow Caledonian University and Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute.

I always wanted to study Biology, but only managed to study Biology at A levels. After that I did my Biology degree in Germany, in the University of Wuerzburg. I think the cells and systems of living creatures is very complex and fascinating, which is why I chose to study Biology.
