When I was little I wanted to be a dancer/actor. By my mid teens, I had developed more of an interest in science, and I wanted to be an architect. I started to realise it was really the physics and engineering of how to make buildings strong and effective which interested me, so I went on to study physics at university. I developed a particular interest in nuclear physics, and realised I wanted to work in nuclear power. By the time I finished uni, I had decided I wanted to work in nuclear safety. So you see there is lots of chance to change your mind.

i wanted to be a vet.. then i wanted to work in forensic science and while i was studying this at university i 1st came across x-ray analysis being used for things other than X-raying peoples bones. i was offered a job in a laboratory and gradually i have specialised more and more in x-raying things. sometimes we do cool things like look at moon rocks or a sword once

I originally wanted to go into medicine and become a medical doctor – at a careers event I got to see a selection of talks by doctors and surgeons and I discovered that I have a pretty strong blood phobia! I was still interested in research so went into science, studying a biology degree and intending to do medical research – However, as I studied I fell in love with environmental science and am now an astrobiologist trying to characterise if there is life outside of Earth.

I had so many dreams. I wanted to work with animals for a while, either as a vet or in a rescue centre. Then I wanted to be a business manager or actor (blame teenage me for wanting loads of money). Then i really liked the idea to be a librarian, art reconstructor, or somehow involved with historic items…
But to be fair, science was always part of what I liked about those dreams. The nutrition and veterinary science, the science of management or effective acting, historic resconstruction and the chemistry involved… -

Teacher which carried on till I did A level Psychology. Then I wanted to be a psychologist but fell in love with neuroscience. I knew in the middle of doing my degree in Human Biology and Psychology that neuroscience is the way forward and to work with patients at a hospital setting.
