I was born in Germany but moved to Scotland when I was young but I often go back to visit family there (sometimes by car) so travel through France, Belgium and the Netherlands to get there. I have also been to Italy, Spain and Croatia. Back in 2014, I was very lucky to go on a school trip to Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

I’ve been very lucky as a scientist to travel quite a lot. During my PhD, I spent a short time at the Technical University of Munich (luckily during the Oktoberfest!) and attended conferences in France and Germany. Since then I’ve visited many cities in Europe either to attend conferences, teach on summer schools and work with colleagues. I’ve also visited a number of places in the US… from Seatle and San Francisco on the West Coast to Baltimore and Washington on the East and a few in between. My most memorable visits has been three visits to India… to Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

I’ve been to a few countries on visits and holidays throughout my life: Germany, Hungary, Finland, Netherlands, Croatia and Cuba.
Last year I got to go to Boston and Cape Cod in the US for a conference, and this year I’ll be going to Sweden! Scientists go to conferences to share new research and ideas, and they can be held anywhere!

I would love to go to the Maldives one day or a cruise where you get to see lots of different countries! -

I love travelling, and used to compete internationally so I have visited quite a few countries! I love learning about different cultures and trying new foods as well. Ones I can remember are: France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, USA.

A fair number within Europe but only a handful outside. So far – Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France, Spain,Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Czechia, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Albania, Romania, Greece, North Macedonia, Moldova (and Transnistria), Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, China, Israel, Egypt, South Africa, Malawi, and the USA. Mostly for pleasure but a few for work or study. I’ve fond memories of most though in many cases they’ve started to merge in my memory.

When I first come to UK for work and before covid as a Data engineer we are required to travel for work . I went to Amsterdam for business and worked in north of UK too.
But for leisure I visited around 15 countries including Amsterdam :
Mauritius , London , Paris , Amsterdam , Barcelona , Lisbon ,Some of Italy , Crete , Denmark , Malaysia, Ireland ,Singapore , Switzerland, Dubai, and Australia, -

For work I have visited most parts of western Europe. This means that I have visited an airport, hotel and factory, plus a short walk around town in the evening.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit coffee farms in Costa Rica as part of a conference on coffee science (and flew business class!).For holiday, I’ve just got back from exploring all the waterfalls in Jamaica.
