Veins move blood back to the heart ( mostly, there is a odd one near your hearth that takes blood away from the heart), while your arteries take blood away from your heart under pressure- to your head and feet for example.
If you didn’t have veins your blood would be pumped away from your heart but then couldn’t come back- you would be huge red red swollen feet and legs pretty quickly, and your brain would be very unhappy!
In medical l emergencies we can take the blood out of the body and by-pass ( or go around) some of the arteries and veins ( and heart and lungs) in a process called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), but people who need ECMO are really, really, really unwell so they have to be in intensive care in hospital.
