  We are very lucky in that our Sun is too small to become a black hole. However, if it did, we initially probably wouldn’t notice except about 8 minutes after it happened, the light would disappear from the day time sky and the Earth would start of cool. It may take some time, but eventually, the oceans would freeze and it would begin to rain liquid air. Earth would be a cold dead world orbiting the black hole.
  
  We’d need to have a significant increase in mass when the black hole formed to drag Earth into the black hole.
