I do synthetic organic chemistry which means I make new molecules by reacting other molecules together in experiments.

I mainly work at my computer analysing numerical data and plotting it up. However, I use data that support scientists have analysed – they measure the amount of nutrients and carbon in seawater on various analytical machines. The support scientists are experts on the analysis methods and instruments so we get better data than if I were to try and analyse everything myself.
