Question: What genes do you take from your parents?

Carmen Whitehead answered on 12 Jul 2024:
Genes code for everything that makes you who you are. You would inherit things like eye colour, skin colour and even blood type. Unfortunately some diseases can be inherited too, like cystic fibrosis or even allergies. You will get a copy of one gene from your biological mother and another from your biological father. Although there is little research into someone having the genetic make up from three parents!

Imagine you’re a puzzle. Half of the pieces come from your mum and the other half come from your dad. These pieces are called genes, and they fit together to make the picture of you. That’s why you might have your mum’s hair colour but your dad’s eye colour – because their genes are part of your puzzle!
