We are working towards understanding how chemistry evolved into biology on this planet some 4 billion years ago and how that might mean that there is life elsewhere in the galaxy and universe. I hope that the research I’ve started will continue after I retire. In fact, I’m pretty confident it will!

I would love if we had a better understanding of how contaminants get into the ocean, where they go from there, and how we can protect animals and humans better. We know that there is a contamination issue, but even when we ban the use of chemicals that are dangerous, we havent figured out how to remove the stuff that is already out there (just think of the marine plastic pollution as an example). I hope to help answer those questions or inspire others to find those solutions.
