When I was little I wanted to be a dancer/actor. By my mid teens, I had developed more of an interest in science, and I wanted to be an architect. I started to realise it was really the physics and engineering of how to make buildings strong and effective which interested me, so I went on to study physics at university. I developed a particular interest in nuclear physics, and realised I wanted to work in nuclear power. By the time I finished uni, I had decided I wanted to work in nuclear safety. So you see there is lots of chance to change your mind.

i wanted to be a vet.. then i wanted to work in forensic science and while i was studying this at university i 1st came across x-ray analysis being used for things other than X-raying peoples bones. i was offered a job in a laboratory and gradually i have specialised more and more in x-raying things. sometimes we do cool things like look at moon rocks or a sword once

I originally wanted to go into medicine and become a medical doctor – at a careers event I got to see a selection of talks by doctors and surgeons and I discovered that I have a pretty strong blood phobia! I was still interested in research so went into science, studying a biology degree and intending to do medical research – However, as I studied I fell in love with environmental science and am now an astrobiologist trying to characterise if there is life outside of Earth.
