Alexander De Bruin answered on 9 Feb 2024:
I’m probably about an 80 – I won’t stay in this exact role forever as I’d like to progress my career, but I’m pretty happy with my current job

Rachel Edwards answered on 9 Feb 2024:
About 80. I like it a lot and do something different every day, which keeps things fresh. But there may be something better that appears one day! I’ve also just applied for a promotion, so it may go up or down depending on the outcome of that 😀

Martin McCoustra answered on 9 Feb 2024:
Probably 100… I’m pretty happy with where I am now and the only reason to leave would be retirement.
-
Jayne Roberts answered on 10 Feb 2024:
I would say 100. I have worked for the same company all through my career (which is quite unusual these days) but I have recently been promoted so I have lots of new challenges to get my teeth into.

David McGonigle answered on 11 Feb 2024:
50. I don’t like the current environment in academia. Too many younger colleagues are on short term contracts, and there are issues with gender imbalances in pay. We’re supposed to be places where new thinking occurs – yet we’re often stuck in the past.

Viviene Dela Cruz answered on 12 Feb 2024:
85! I love my job, I see it as getting paid to learn new things and build systems, win-win! But I also like my time away from my job so I’ll give it an 85 😀
-
Erin Pallott answered on 12 Feb 2024:
About 50. I am doing my PhD and while I find it really interesting, I don’t think academic research is for me! I hope to find a job in science communication when I graduate.
-
Zoe Vance answered on 12 Feb 2024:
Probably 85-90. I like the department I work in currently but I know I won’t stay forever – the nature of academic science means you tend to move about a lot especially early on in your career
-
Eleftheria Stavridou answered on 12 Feb 2024:
I would say probably 80%, there are some days that I am thinking that I want to change a job but most days I really enjoy what I do
-
Michael Schubert answered on 13 Feb 2024:
Probably about a 90! I love my current job, but there are some things I’d like to try that I haven’t done yet. That doesn’t mean I want to stop doing what I’m doing, because I don’t… but I’d like to add more things to it!
-
David Bremner answered on 14 Feb 2024:
I think everyone will have days where it might be a 1, some days it might be 100 if i start to get more days where it is 1 then i might have to question whether it is still right for me.
-
Kirsty Ross answered on 15 Feb 2024:
Probably about a 90 just now. Always room for improvement, but I am pretty happy just now.
-
Abbie Young answered on 6 Mar 2024:
90, I love my job, but I would like to progress and work in a higher job.

I’d say 95, which is as high as this ranking can get for me (I have to take into account the usual “win the lottery” and “same job with twice the pay” caveats). I’m really lucky though. In fact, the vast majority of people is not happy with their job, in the UK or elsewhere, see for instance here: https://www.businessleader.co.uk/uk-workforce-is-one-of-least-satisfied-across-europe/
These really put into perspective how it’s worth cherishing doing something you enjoy, if you manage to make it!

Honestly I’d say 99 – I love working at the Open University, I get to supervise and work on some really cool science, I teach some great students and I am genuinely interested in what I do.
I also get to live in Milton Keynes, which I love – lots of great places to walk the dogs, close to lots of places and it’s where I’ve built a life with my wife.
