      There have been many since the development of nuclear weapons, mainly from tests in the 1950s and 60s before it was banned to do this above the ground. Now, if they are done at all, they are done underground in special facilities.

      What happened at Chernobyl wasn’t really a nuclear explosion but had the same effect as it spread radioactivity over a wide area. It was caused by poor design and a lack of training of the staff running the reactor.

      There also a site in Gabon where there is enough uranium ore in the ground that a natural fission reaction happens constantly
