About Me:
I currently still live at home with my family and cat in Manchester. I am working as a radiation protection engineer at the moment, whilst also working part time at a local Chinese takeaway. In my free time I will often spend my time playing sports, cooking food or reading books.

I come from a rather small tight nit family, of a surprising amount of teachers, meaning that I am fortunately very well travelled, even recently travelling to Japan, whilst currently using Duolingo to learn Japanese. On weekends I will often spend time playing rugby with my local club, working a shift at my local Chinese takeaway, meaning I get free salt and pepper chips, going out into central Manchester to try new cuisine at different restaurants, and relaxing at home playing a plethora of video games on either my PS5, Nintendo Switch or PC.

My Work:
My role is to assist with the advisement of clients with regard to their use of ionising radiation, to ensure safety and legal standards are met. This involves writing out site visit reports or safety assessments, as well as travelling to sites both across the country and the world, in order to gather information from the site themselves.

My current role is actually a trainee position as I am training to become a radiation protection adviser, which is a governmentally recognised role, which identifies you as one of a handful of people in the UK who are legally allowed to advise people on the use of ionising radiation. In order to help my companies clients I am employed to do a variety of different jobs, such as leading radiation protection supervisor training sessions, assisting HR with careers events and work experience projects, attending professional seminars, webinars and events to further improve my working knowledge, and I also deal with the checking of the office instrumentation and radioactive sources.

My Typical Day:
I wake up around an hour before work starts at 8:30, in order to get ready and drive to work. Once at work I check my emails and outlook calendar in order to see what I have planned for the day. I either have a packed lunch in the office kitchen or travel to the local science park food hall around midday. My day finishes at 5pm, but 3:45pm on Fridays.

In reality there is no quote unquote typical day in my role, seeing as there is so many different parts to my job, we cover a large and varying client base, and the work revolves around ionising radiation which inertly has a random and unpredictable nature.
