One big dream I have for my career is to get my Doctorate in Education (EdD). I’m working on it at the moment but it is challenging. I am doing research in to how we teach and assess forensic science and how we can make it better. This goal is very important to me because it’s all about finding new and fun ways to help students learn about forensic science. I want to make classes more interesting and useful, so students can really get into it and maybe one day become successful forensic scientists themselves. Getting this degree would help me help others, and that’s what I’m really excited about!

I would love to be able to present at an International Conference! I enjoy communicating science and presenting my work at an internation level would be amazing.

Obtain my PhD – which after many years of working, I have decided to return to university this year and study part-time whilst working.

I’m not sure about that one… However, I recently found out that a paper that a colleague and I published nearly 25 years ago telling astronomers to go and look for a certain feature related to water ice will finally be followed up soon by astronomers who’ve been working on the James Webb Space Telescope. Unfortunately, unlike Prof. Peter Higgs at Edinburgh University who predicted the Higgs Boson and got the Noble Prize when it was discovered, I don’t think I’ll get a Noble Prize!

I have a couple of big dreams; one is to get a PhD (then I can call myself Dr. Hannah!), and the second is to become either a consultant or a clinical haematologist.

My PhD supervisor taught over 50 students by the time he retired – that’s 50 plus people who’s lives were changed. I love teaching my PhD students, and I would love to teach as many as I can before the University makes me retire (hopefully not for a long time!). Getting to support their research and help develop their ideas is a wonderful thing.
